Areas of Research/Interest

Microbes, social/biological science collaborations, malnutrition and global health, feminist science studies, ontologies

Amber Benezra is a sociocultural anthropologist working to develop an ‘anthropology of microbes’ with life scientists. Drawing together the insights of feminist theory and the collaborative capacities of ethnography, her research is an exploration of how the natural and social sciences might jointly engage pressing global health problems such as malnutrition. Her research centers around commensal microbes in the human gut and the ontological/material, biological/social imperatives emerging from new microbiome research in the US and Bangladesh.
